Classroom Vocabulary and Definitions for 116 

Alphabetize (verb) = to put words in the order of the English alphabet. Words that start with the letter "A" are first, then words that start with the letter "B" are next, and so on. 

Alphabetical order (noun) = the product of a list of words that are listed in the order of the English alphabet.

Category (noun) = a group of things that are organized or put together because they have the same or similar features or characteristics. 

Categorize (verb) = to put things in groups (categories) based on same or similar features or characteristics. For example, all the students wearing red shirts go in one group (category) and all the students with blue shirts go in a different category. Or, all the words that begin with the letter "A" go in one category and all the words that begin with the letter "B" go in a different category.
